Firefly's five-layer methodology from Leadership through Technology, mapped to Executive Coaching, Commercial Systems Architecture, and Technology Advisory.

Executive Coaching

Everything downstream reflects the quality of leadership.

Leadership determines what the business wants, who has authority to decide, how people are expected to behave, and who owns the consequences.

Business Intent, Business Strategy, Process, and Technology all inherit what leadership puts into the organization.

There is no greater asset in a business, and no more consequential constraint, than its leadership.

Leadership sets the culture.

What leadership tolerates, rewards, challenges, ignores, celebrates, and corrects propagates through all layers of the business.

You can't build a business bigger than its culture.

Executive coaching works at the source: the leadership patterns that create and sustain culture.

Culture determines what the organization can sustain.

Growth creates more decisions, more delegation, more accountability, more disagreement, and more opportunities for things to break.

When the culture cannot carry that load, it becomes the constraint.

Amplify what works. Interrupt what doesn't.

Good patterns propagate. Bad patterns do too.

Firefly's executive coaching works in two directions.

  • Amplify effective patterns.

Some of your best leadership may already come naturally.

Coaching helps you recognize what works, understand why it works, and develop it deliberately.

The goal is to turn natural leadership into conscious leadership.

  • Interrupt disruptive patterns.

Avoidance. Defensiveness. Overcontrol. Indecision. Poor delegation. Unclear expectations. Inconsistent accountability. Unresolved conflict.

Executive coaching helps expose the patterns behind those symptoms and interrupt them before they become more deeply embedded in the culture and the business.

Executive coaching creates a place where you don't have to perform.

Leadership can be isolating.

There are things you cannot safely say to an employee, colleague, board member, partner, investor, or sometimes even the people closest to you.

Coaching gives you somewhere to say them.

Firefly creates a non-judgmental and discreet space where you can examine your assumptions, emotions, behavior, decisions, and patterns without having to defend yourself or perform for anyone.

Sessions are not recorded.

You don't need to arrive with the answer. You just need to be willing to look.

Sometimes you already know something has to change.

  • "I keep avoiding a conversation I know I need to have."
  • "I don't feel like the leader everyone thinks I am."
  • "I know something needs to change, but I don't know what."
  • "I keep making the same mistake."
  • "My managers are not managing."
  • "People keep bringing me decisions they should be able to make themselves."
  • "I'm good at this, but I don't really understand why."
  • "What got me here will not get me where I need to go next."

You do not need to diagnose the problem before starting the conversation.

Grounded in ICF coaching methodology.

Firefly's executive coaching is grounded in International Coaching Federation methodology.

The coach does not impose a worldview or hand you a prefabricated answer.

The work creates space for inquiry, reflection, awareness, and deliberate action so you can examine what is happening, understand your patterns, and decide what you want to do next.

When consulting, advisory work, therapy, legal counsel, or another professional discipline is more appropriate, that distinction should be explicit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if executive coaching will help my organization?

Good leadership and bad leadership both leave evidence.

Effective leadership often looks like:

  • Consistency between what leadership says and what leadership does
  • Clear decisions and clear ownership
  • Agreement about what the business is trying to accomplish
  • Accountability at every level without unnecessary control
  • Managers who can lead independently
  • Difficult conversations that actually happen
  • Healthy disagreement without organizational paralysis
  • A culture capable of supporting growth and change

Disruptive leadership patterns often look like:

  • Decisions that never seem final
  • Problems everyone sees but nobody addresses
  • Managers afraid to manage
  • Employees waiting for permission instead of taking ownership
  • Conflicting expectations
  • Avoided conversations
  • Constant changes in direction
  • Strategy that makes sense in the room but disappears in execution

Executive coaching is not about judging which list you belong on. It is about looking at the evidence and deciding what you want to change.

Are coaching sessions confidential?

Yes.

Coaching conversations are treated with a very high standard of confidentiality and discretion, subject only to narrow legal, ethical, or safety exceptions.

Are coaching sessions recorded?

No.

Firefly does not record executive coaching sessions.

Can you provide references from coaching clients?

No.

I do not disclose coaching-client identities or what was discussed during their engagements.

I can discuss my experience working with leaders in aggregate. References from separate consulting, strategy, systems architecture, or technology engagements may be available where appropriate.

Are you ICF certified?

No.

I've completed coaching training through the Institute for Coaching Innovation and am working toward the ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credential.

What is ICF coaching?

ICF coaching is a client-centered approach built around inquiry, reflection, awareness, and action.

The coach creates and holds the space. The client examines what is happening, recognizes patterns and assumptions, considers alternatives, and decides what to do next.

What experience do you have working with leaders?

My experience with leaders extends well beyond formal coaching.

I have worked directly with business owners, executives, managers, and decision-makers through business strategy, systems architecture, technology implementation, organizational change, and consulting engagements.

That is not the same as formal coaching experience, and I do not represent it as such.

It does give me extensive experience seeing how leadership decisions and leadership patterns affect the rest of a business.

Can you coach anyone? How do you keep your own biases from interfering?

Everyone has biases, conscious and unconscious. I do too.

The goal is not to pretend they disappear. It is to recognize them and prevent them from becoming judgments that interfere with the coaching relationship.

Languages gave me new lenses through which to understand the world. Living and working on every continent except Antarctica gave me the opportunity to look through those lenses.

That experience helped me develop the practiced ability to listen without immediately judging someone through the assumptions of my own background.

I want clients to have a genuinely safe place to process emotions, examine beliefs, question assumptions, and look directly at their own behavior without having to defend themselves from me.

Fit still matters. There may be circumstances where another coach or another professional is the better choice.

Is executive coaching therapy, consulting, or legal advice?

No.

Coaching is distinct from therapy, consulting, and legal counsel.

Firefly provides consulting and advisory services separately. If the work needs to shift from coaching into advice or another professional discipline, that change should be explicit.

Leadership is already shaping what happens next.

Develop what works.

Interrupt what does not.

Lead consciously.
